NICOLE Fall Workshop was another succesful one!

We would very much like to thank all of you for making the last fall workshop in Brussels another very succesful one! The success of these workshops is entirely due to your commitment!

Along with this, we would like to announce that the upcoming workshop will be hosted in Vienna, Austria between 15th – 17th of June 2016. The subjects of this sping workshop will be ‘Failures & Flaws’ and ‘Innovation’.

We are currently looking for members to join the OC members, if you are interested to participate the organising committee. Please inform the NICOLE Secretariat if you are interested in joining the OC. The Chair of OC will be elected during the first OC discussion. NICOLE really appreciates your contribution.

An update of NICOLE Brasil

In the first week of October, NICOLE Brasil attended the following events: CIMAS, in São Paulo, and Seminário de Gestão de Recursos Hídricos, in Salvador. The Network brought experts from Europe, United States and Canada to conduct lectures and workshops. The main themes covered were bioremediation, sustainable remediation and conceptual site model.

Also, they have published a position paper on October 5th, 2015 which defines the understanding of NICOLE Brasil and FORESBr / SuRF Brasil regarding sustainable remediation. (Note: the document is in Portuguese)

PinFa representative gave a brief introduction in Brussels

Pinfa, established in 2009 as a Sector Group within the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), is the non-halogenated Phosphorus, Inorganic and Nitrogen (PIN) Flame Retardants Association. It represents manufacturers and users of PIN flame retardants, and is open to all companies producing or using PIN flame retardants, as well as organisations working in related areas.

Pinfa’s working groups are active amongst others in the areas of Fire Safety, Environment and Ecolabels, Recycling and Communications, Transport, Furniture and Textiles, Electrical and Electronics, Building and Construction.

NanoRem Newsletter Autumn 2015

The latest NanoRem newsletter (Autumn 2015) has just been published and posted on the NanoRem website.

The newsletter articles provide details on the following:

SoBRA Announcements

The Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA) was established in 2009 to support the growing number of professionals working in land contamination risk assessment. It is a learned society for individuals, with membership drawn from the private, public, voluntary and academic sectors. Its goals are to improve technical knowledge in risk-based decision-making related to land contamination applications and to enhance the professional status and profile of practitioners. To this end the society has delivered six annual conferences and seven workshops to date. It is also about to launch a new registration scheme to demonstrate competence as a land contamination risk assessor.

The first tranche of applications are anticipated to be accepted in spring 2016. If you are interested in being included on the register, then visit the website for full details on the application requirements and start gathering your evidence for your written submission!

International Year of Soil ‘Healty soil for healthy life’

This event is one of main contributions of the European Commission to mark the 2015 International Year of Soils (IYS) aiming at raising awareness on the importance of healthy soils for a healthy life.
